Wind Energy
Electricity
A
Power available in the wind
With the increase in the
cost of electricity and fuel people need some techniques through which they can easily lower down their
electricity bills. We have a lot of God gifted renewable energy sources through which we can meet our needs
effectively. Sun, water and wind are some of such sources. These days people are using these alternate
sources for electricity production. These techniques are useful at the places where we don’t have electricity.
Wind power or wind electricity is the conversion of wind energy into useful electric power. We use wind turbines
to make electricity, wind mills for mechanical power and wind pumps for pumping out water from deep inside the
earth.
How does wind energy electricity work
Wind power ,no doubt, is the fastest growing
technique for production of electric power. Wind is renewable source and it saves our money that we
spend on electricity bills monthly. Working of such systems involves large blades which spin by the force
of wind, thus attaining kinetic energy which can now be used for electrical or mechanical work. Wind
plants are much more reasonable and cost effective as compared to oil fuel or other methods. These plants can be
implemented where divergence of wind is greater.
Some advantages of using wind energy electricity
Some other advantages of wind electric energy are
that it is environmental friendly and do not produce pollution. It does not require water for which we
need to cut down huge part of our land. One drawback that has environmental impact by wind energy system is
that turbines which move by wind produce a lot of noise which is not soothing for our ears and results in noise
pollution.
This
electricity is being produced by kinetic energy(energy of motion) in the wind by the blades of
turbines. These turbines will rotate the shaft which will turn an alternator and electricity will
be produced by it and thus electricity generating wind turbine. Blades used are engineered airfoils
which are matched to alternator that captures wind energy. Nowadays most of the wind power generators have three
blades. Together the blades and hub are connected to rotor which is considered to be the collector of the
system.
By comparison you will understand that wind power
is much cheaper then other forms of energy. Its cost can be determined by the following
factors
- Initial cost of wind energy system
installation.
- The interest rate of money
invested.
- The amount of energy
produced.
Cost is also affected by the geographical position
of wind generated electricity turbine. If you have installed it at windy area like sea shore then it will give
you large through-put as compared to the system which is installed at less windy area. These factors must be
kept in mind before the installation of this system.
The use of wind power is becoming common day by
day in terms of installation and operation world wide, the wind power industry now turns over more then 9
million US dollars.
