How To Build Solar Water Pump

In the past few years, fuel price has increased terribly. We needed some alternate and cheaper sources of energy than petrol, diesel etc. solution came in the form of solar energy. Sun light is now used as major source of energy to earth.   Sunlight can now be used as heat as well as electric source.

Electricity from sunlight is used at wide scale from our daily life gadgets to high powered plants. In past we had water sources such as wells or lakes and we were used to take out water from them using ropes and buckets. After arrival of electricity same work is done with the help of electric motors. These motors derive power from nearby electric source. With the increase in electricity price an alternate method was introduced to take out water from water sources like lakes, rivers and wells. It is known as solar powered water pumping.

Solar water pumps provide an effective, reliable and long lasting technique which is cost efficient then normal diesel or electric water pumps. These pumps work on renewable energy source i.e. sun. Future cost can be effectively reduced by this method as compared to other conventional techniques. They cause fewer problems with noise, dirt and fumes. Using these pumps will require smallest amount of energy to pull water from the well. Energy from the sun is converted into electric energy with the help of solar panels. If you want to design a solar water pump system for your home use then let's look at this procedure.

  1. First of all find your location where you want to install your solar water pumping system. Make sure that it is proper location with a sufficient amount of water in it.
  2. Second step is your selection of size for the water pump. There is a relation between size of pump and power consumed. The greater the pump, greater would be power required to run it and greater would be the amount of water extracted from that location. It totally depends on you that how much power can your panels provide and how much water you require.
  3. Assemble your pump according to the instruction booklet which comes along with the pump.
  4. Next step is to install your solar panels. You have number of choices for that purpose. It is important that solar panel you use has sufficient surface area so that it may absorb as much solar energy as it can. Always make sure that your panel’s direction is towards east or west for the better exposure of panel to the sun. once panels are set up, next thing which you are going to do is to connect your solar panels to the main unit of the pump. This will ensure the transference of electric power from solar panels to the pump.
  5. Last step for pump installation is to cover your pump tactfully. It is for safety and security of your system. Try to install it in such a way that you save it from natural disasters like rain, storms and tornados.
